Artist Of The Week: Q&A With Em Rossi

Hi MBC fam and welcome to my first artist for Artist Of The Week Series.

My first guest, who I recently got in touch, I asked if she would like to do an exclusive Q&A with me and of course she said yes.

Rossi was kind enough to take some time out of her busy schedule to do an exclusive one on one interview with MBC.

Em talks about where she’s from, how old she was when she knew she wanted to become a singer/songwriter, her inspirations, up and coming new song and much more.

Check out the artist latest single “Earthquake”

What a stunning voice!!!

Her talent and maturity is beyond her years at just 17 years old.

Rossi is a true professional in what she produces, showing her vulnerability in her songs, talking from past experiences and the people that inspire her today to release such masterpieces.

Em Rossi, displays a soul-based sound and story-telling ability extraordinary in one so young.

Em’s jazzy, haunting vocals makes listeners stop and feel. Deep and soulful, her debut album coming soon is a stunningly complex and sophisticated first release.

Em weaves a unique blend of retro soul with Coldplay pop. Her compelling sound is equal parts Adele, Fiona Apple, and The Fray. Fearless chords of Motown, blues, and jazz resonate on this album, enriched with a fusion of live horns and strings.

Can’t wait to see what else is next in-store for this talented singer-songwriter.

She definitely has what it takes to become a major recording artist, that’s for sure!!!

Ok MBC fam, please welcome my special guest Em Rossi.

Please tell the readers who is Em Rossi and where you’re from?

I am a 17 year old singer/songwriter born and raised in Petaluma, CA. My music is a mixture of genres incorporating pop and modern jazz elements.

How old were you when you knew you wanted to become a singer/songwriter?

Music seemed to always be surrounding me when I was growing up. I had always had a passion for it. My dad also sang, wrote and played the guitar.

I never fully acknowledged that I wanted to pursue music as a career, because I had no idea how I was going to get myself through the door of the industry.

I was 14 when the opportunity came along randomly. My parents were out together on a date night and a man asked for directions.

He turned out to be Jay King from the group Club Nouveau.
My parents played a video of me singing.

The next day he called us and we met for lunch and then we went to the studio to meet the rest of the group. I sang for them.

From that day on, the lead singer, Samuel Prater, met me in the studio one night a week to teach me how to record and make music. Once I was given the chance, I ran with it.

Who has been your inspiration in your life and why?

My inspiration stems from my family, close friends, and my music team who have always supported and believed in me along this journey.

My father was a huge confidence, spiritual, and musical motivator for me as I grew up.

After he passed away unexpectedly when I was just 15, my mom took the reins and opened the door back into the music industry for me. I’m grateful that she will never give up on this music journey with me.

My family is my rock and to have a mom and brother who will always have my back pushes me to keep believing in my dreams.

If you could sing with your favourite idol who would it be?

My all-time favourite idol would be Adele. I came across her music in my early teens when I was very shy and awkward.

I would come home from school and lock myself in my dad’s office that was separate from our house. I would sing her songs in private for hours.

Her music helped me find my voice and the confidence to believe in it. It would be beyond a dream to sing with her.

However, I don’t know if I could keep myself together to sing with her, because I would probably be freaking out.

Your latest single “Earthquake” has received a positive response worldwide. How did the song come about? And what was the inspiration in writing this track?

I am so grateful for the incredible outpouring of support from everyone for my song Earthquake.

I never expected it to draw so much attention. My producer, Jim McGorman, had actually given this song to me while we were writing my EP.

We had written five songs together at the time and most of them were deep and emotional tracks about the recent loss of my father.

After we finished the first five songs, we felt like we needed to write a ballad together.

He came to me one day in the studio and said that he had written a song called “Earthquake” for another artist, but he kept thinking of me every time he listened to the track. He sent it over the next day and I fell in love with the song instantly.

The lyrics of the song fit so well with the other tracks we had written about losing my dad.

The inspiration of the song was that when unexpected and tragic moments alter our lives, there should always be a sense of hope that we can find the inner strength to push forward and come out stronger than we were before.

Throughout your career to date, what has been the most memorable and what has been the most challenging?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when I went to Virginia and filmed a live, acoustic performance of five of my songs for a TV show called The Sessions On Demand at Willow Grove, which is now airing nationwide in the US on Comcast Xfinity On Demand.

The next day I was invited to open for the The Tenors show. During that trip to Virginia, we also shot the music video for “Earthquake”.

Another memorable moment has to be when the music video passed one million views on YouTube and was trending on the charts in Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand and Italy.

I never imagined that happening. One of the most challenging things for me in this industry is believing in myself and knowing that I am good enough to belong.

I have constantly worried about expressing myself fully in my music. Music became my vent when my dad passed away. It is challenging to make sure your emotions and feelings are captured in every song. I want to make sure that anything I release is true to myself and the story I live.

What should the fans expect from you in the coming months?

I am headed to Florida to shoot my next music video for my new single “Young Hearts”!

I'm extremely excited for the trip and happy to be able to reunite with members of my team that I haven’t seen since Virginia. I’m sure it will be filled with great memories and many laughs. “Earthquake” will be featured in the upcoming WWE movie Countdown premiering in the US on April 5th starring the WWE stars Kane and Dolph Ziggler.

“Young Hearts” and “Madness” will also be featured in a Kevin Pollack movie called “Late Bloomers”.

United Airlines will be featuring “Earthquake” on their inflight playlist during May and June.
I will also be graduating high school this in June and can’t wait to fully be able to dive into the industry touring, meeting my fans and making more music!

And lastly, what would you like to say to your new and current fans?

I am so happy that my music has touched so many people and I hope that they follow me on my music journey. I love keeping in touch with my fans. I hope they follow and message me through my social media platforms or the email on my website: emrossi.com.
I'm grateful for every single person sending love and support my way.
