Artist Of The Week Q&A with Gamble Breaux

Hi everyone and welcome back to another Artist Of The Week: Q&A series.

In this exclusive entry, I had the privilege in interviewing The Real Housewives of Melbourne favorite Gamble Breaux who recently released a new song with Taxiride’s lead vocalist Jason Singh and writer of ‘This Time’.

Gamble Breaux ft. Jason Singh – This Time

Here at MBC HQ, we have this song on repeat as it is such a beautiful and uplifting song.

I first heard it and saw the debut on The Real Housewives of Melbourne, which Gamble dedicated this song to her life partner and husband Rick Wolfe for their anniversary. And what made it special, it was released on Valentine’s Day. Not a dry eye in sight.

What I love about this clip is how the light and shade of colors are neutral throughout the video.

Seeing Breaux in her element, singing and just being true to herself, you can see why she loves to perform and share her craft.

Having Jason in the video singing backup vocals, playing the guitar and who wrote the song, makes the song and video complete.

Such great harmonies from two amazingly talented artists.

In this exclusive interview, Gamble talks about the meaning behind ‘This Time’, her roots, how it all came about in returning to the music scene and much more.

Please welcome my special guest Gamble Breaux.

If you could tell our readers in just a few words, who you are and where you’re from?

G: My name is Gamble Breaux. I was born in Sydney. I have led a nomadic life living in many different countries before finding love and settling in Melbourne. I never thought I would be considered much of a Housewife until I was cast for The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

What or who inspired you, to become a singer-songwriter?

G: The singing started before I could speak. My mother told me I would try to sing along with Joan Sutherland when I was a toddler.

First songwriting influence was Suzie Quattro whose album I bought for the cover art and John Denver. I was also obsessed with ABBA and their film clips. I know, I’m not very cool. I had very little knowledge starting out.

When I got my first publishing deal, I was 18 years old. A fellow from EMI asked me if I liked Billie Holiday. I said, “Ye sure, he’s really good!”

From The Real Housewives of Melbourne to getting back into singing and debuting your new single ‘This Time’ on the show. When did you know it was time to get back into performing again?

G: I knew five minutes after meeting my new singing teacher Carolyn Waddell, who is better known as Carl by her theatre peeps. Once I established I could pitch, it was game on. My hearing loss in my early 20’s and the operations that followed left me too insecure to sing publicly for the last 20 years.

My teacher gives me life and makes me laugh. She has the most expressive face.
There is no shade of grey when I sing something a little off. I love that I can just read her face and adjust myself rather than having to be told that I was sucking on that note.

Your latest new single ‘This Time’ is such a heartfelt song that resonates with so many people out there. What does this song mean to you? And will there be a music video to follow?

G: The song is about not giving up on life. Finding love and friendship that gives you life and a sense of community. Jason Singh is the most amazing songwriter. He nailed the message I had wanted to communicate to my husband. The music video is out now. It was shot by world-renowned fashion photographer Peter Coulson.

You co-wrote this song with Jason Singh, lead vocalist from Australian band Taxiride. How did that come about?

G: I would have like to take credit as a co-writer of this song, but I can’t.
This is Jason’s song. I am blessed he gave it to me to sing. He wrote it for Rick and I.

What should we expect in the next few months? An album perhaps?

G: I would like to put down more tracks and have a tidy little package to take on the road. Jason is working on his album. I have to finish my book. God willing we can get it all done before I start shooting RHOM again. I would like to have a fantastic set before the end of the year. So yes, I guess that means I am working on an album.

If you could give advice to artists out there who took a break from performing and are getting back into the music scene, what would you say to them?

G: Get a good teacher. Strip it back to basics. Be humble and don’t go back out there until you have redone the hard yards vocally or you will suck.

Lastly, what would you like to say to your fans?

G: Hello darlings! I love you guys. Don’t let anyone shake your confidence. Tenacity is the spice of life. Follow your interests and dreams. Love Gamble x

Thank you so much, Gamble, for taking the time to do this interview and being a part of the Artist Of The Week series.
